About Us

Sonder Circus came about, as companies often do, by a desire to make work that excited us, to provide ourselves with a platform to explore on a multi-disciplinary level and to be pro-active about our own creative careers. Although we are all from different backgrounds we each have an interest in stories and we were inspired to try and find a way in which text could be incorporated into a physical circus world and whether it was possible to effectively integrate the two. Searching for a context which would inspire a blend of narrative and aerial came much easier than expected. Our cultural tradition of storytelling seemed like a natural starting point and once we began to explore our own mythologies, the Cailleach screamed out to us, a spiritual deity, a physical manipulator, an energy almost unknown and with endless appearances in folklore. A more theatrical woman we could not have hoped for!
